The Museum of Unrepresented Voices

The Museum of Unrepresented Voices is a new kind of museum for climate action. It is people-centred and does not have a permanent building. Instead, it has a simple manifesto:

1 – THIS IS A COLLECTIVE ISSUE
2 – HISTORY DOES NOT BELONG TO US
3 – THE ARTEFACT CAN NO LONGER TAKE PRECEDENCE

The museum consists of 195 boxes distributed across 39 unrepresented nations and peoples most affected by climate change that are often unheard. Each under-represented nation shall receive five boxes to discuss, curate, collect and disseminate, ensuring a collective voice that is captured at grass-root level, before being passed onto neighbouring countries. In turn, these countries will display, interact, discuss and add to the collection, before disseminating the boxes to their neighbouring countries.

The network is mobile, agile and responsive; occasionally stopping during key symposiums, conferences and summits, forming a global network of museums simultaneously responding to climate action. The boxes, the size of a carry-on suitcase, and their contents are the embodiment of the museum will travel by land and sea. All 195 boxes will eventually end up at the location of the COP in 2030 to form the final iteration of The Museum of Unrepresented Voices. Our course of action in the next ten years leading up to 2030 will be reflected in this collection - will it form a museum or a memorial?
